Biography
DJ Masala (Takaaki Midorikawa) is the first Japanese Suntripper and a true Goa Trance adventurer. Known for his melodic, cosmic, and deeply emotional sets, he discovered Goa Trance in 2011 and began DJing the following year. His performances are rooted in storytelling, guiding listeners into altered states of trance through a journey of sound. From 2015 onward, Masala expanded his activity onto the international stage, performing in Belgium, Spain, the Balkans, Mexico, and beyond. His highlights include Balkan Goa Fanatics, Mystic Mountain (Croatia), Exit Festival, Elysium Island Festival, Ages of Love (Serbia), Apsara Festival (Romania), Origen Festival (Mexico), and ne:magari (Osaka, Japan). These experiences shaped him not only as a DJ but also as a cultural connector within the global Goa Trance scene. Today, his activities go beyond the dancefloor. He works as a compiler of collaborative albums, runs his own label, and shares his vision through video projects. Masala explores contexts where Goa Trance can truly resonate, gathering feedback from outside parties and festivals to foster its evolution. By providing field recordings to artists and through the fusion of diverse cultural elements and values, he continues to expand the possibilities of Goa Trance. More than music, he presents it as an evolving experience that connects people across borders.
